Unlimited by Jillian Michaels - Powerful

Posted By Girl Power on Apr 6, 2011 at 1:08PM

"To live the life of your dreams, you have to know what those dreams are." - Jillian Michaels

I recently received an early copy of Jillian Michaels book Unlimited from a dear male friend of mine.  He read some of the early reviews on Amazon and thought that this book would be perfect for me.  Don't you just hate when people know exactly what you need when you have no clue.  The last few years, I have been unhappy.  I have been trying to find the confidence within to admit that I was not happy with my work, my personal life and myself.  From the outside I look like I have it all together when in fact I have nestled myself in the comfort of being uncomfortable.

When I first opened Jillian's book, I went directly to the table of contents.  I needed to know the subject matter before I invested my time.  I had no use for useless self-help jargon.  The second item I read was so bold that I put her book down and cried. It simply stated, "What the Hell Do You Want to Do With Your Life?"  What, did I want to do?  I had no clue....well not one that I could verbalize.  After a few hours and some chocolate I went back to Chapter One- Identify Your Passion, which is under the heading of Imagine and found myself thinking back about my relationships with people and with myself.  I discovered the moment when I started hiding my true gifts and talents to make others comfortable around me.  I found what Jillian calls the big lie- that if we are not happy then "that's just the way things are."

Life is to be lived and there are no rules to achievement. "The truth is, there are no rules. Period.  Anything is possible if you have the knowledge and do the work." You mean that, it's okay to follow my passions?  It is okay to be selfish in pursuit of my dreams....all of this in the first few pages of the book. Boy, did my friend know what I needed to hear (read).

Although the first heading is called Imagine, I would rename it Dismantle!  As I turned the pages of this book, I found bits of my philosophy of living being dismantled.  I found freedom in the words.  It had been so long since someone told me that it was okay to take all my knowledge and gifts and demand  the very best from the universe.

I have not completed Unlimited, but I am well on my way.  There are so many points that have made me stop in my tracks and reflect that, I find myself revisiting the material I just read with a notepad of personal reflection notes.  I strongly recommend Unlimited by Jillian Michaels if you are looking for some inner peace, and even if you are afraid of the journey....take it, your life will be forever changed.

Being secure works attracts friends...

Posted By almost famous on Aug 27, 2008 at 10:51PM

I know many of you know this already, but I had to talk about security with oneself. I truly wonder whom I can talk to that has the ability to stay secure. There has to be that woman at work whom walks with so much power that makes you want to quickly befriend her. You see this young girl whom has a handicap, but has loads and loads of friends. I always wondered why is there an importance to being secure? Can being secure be a people magnate if so, how can you learn to obtain a sense of security?

It came to me that most or everyone one, enjoys being around others that enjoy their own company. I recently reconnected with a high school friend. She was always independent and didn't care if anyone didn't approve of her Sclerosis. She was and still is aloof, sarcastic, nonchalant, quiet and quite opinionated. I can recall her always being a bit dull and boring however, I liked talking to her. She wasn't as outgoing as me, but I enjoyed talking and poking fun of her and she doing the same. I realized she was secure with herself and knew who she was and liked how she appealed regardless of her deformity. It is her ability to attract people. Which I found as an ingenious way to make and form friendships. She was secure with everything and new she was on the right path. She reminded me of my cousin.

My cousin has two best friends from her childhood that she know will always be there for her. In high school, she gained another friend, (probably gained more than what I know of). Which this high school friend looks up to her and wished she had a family like my cousin (I knew my cousin was overly confident, but this one made her jump for joy) lol. She made some friends at her college, it has been eight years since and they still chat. Even at her job now she has a nice social circle. A lot of women like talking to her. She loves to crack jokes, have fun, talk about everything and of course, she is secure with herself. She don't walk wishing her faults didn't show. She don't think about what she needs to improve, because to her there isn't anything to improve.

I don't know if all of this caps everything about security, but it was something I had to talk about and get off my chest. I realized being secure with yourself is one of those gifts we find out after we've made terrible mistakes in life. But the true gift is being able to learning to understand what security is and why it is needed in order to live a happier and stable life.
